Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
Brücken zu queeren Filmfestivals der ganzen Welt schlagen die neun Jurymitglieder des 27. TEDDY AWARDS 2013, die am 15.2. in der Station Berlin verliehen werden. Sie wählen aus den queeren Filmen aller Sektionen der Berlinale die Preisträger in den Kategorien bester Spielfilm, bester Dokumentar-/Essayfilm und bester Kurzfilm aus und vergeben einen Jury-Preis.
Aus Taiwan kommt Sophie Shu-Yi Lin, sie arbeitete unter anderem für das taiwanesische „Women Make Waves“ Film-Festival, das Beijing Queer Film Festival und das Kaohsiung International Film Festival. Der Produzent und Regisseur Pavel Cortes ist Direktor und Programmverantwortlicher der ersten queeren Programmsektion innerhalb des Guadalajara International Film Festivals in Mexiko, dem „Premio Maguey“.
Erprobte Jurorin queerer Filmfestivals ist Martha Arredondo. Die Filmkritikerin ist Mitglied des Organisationskomitees des LesbianGayBiTrans* (LGBT) Film Festivals der Dominikanischen Republik. Benoit Arnulf ist künstlerischer Leiter des Film Festivals „Rencontres In&Out NiceQFF“. Das Programm des „AFI Fest“, das jährliche Festival des American Film Institute in Los Angeles, wird von Dilcia Barrera mitgestaltet.
Gerja Pérez Melià ist Direktor des LGBT Film Festivals von Madrid, dem „LesGaiCineMad“, und ist Mitbegründer des CineLGBT Network, das durch kooperierende Festivals über 40 lateinamerikanische Städte in 17 Ländern verbindet. Das größte kulturelle LGBT Event der Ukraine, den „Sunny Bunny“ im Rahmen des Molodist Filmfestes, organisiert Ljosha Chashchyn.
Seit 22 Jahren gibt es das „Vinokino“, Finnlands einziges Filmfestival, das sich der Thematik Gender und Sexualität widmet: Johanna Hakanen gestaltet das Programm seit 2006. Die Hamburgerin Katja Briesemeister schließlich gestaltet die „Lesbisch Schwule Filmtage Hamburg | International Queer Film Festival“, das größte Queer Film Festival in Deutschland.

Der TEDDY AWARD ist der bedeutendste queere Filmpreis des Weltkinos. Er ist eine gesellschaftlich engagierte politische Auszeichnung, die Filmen und Personen zugute kommt, die queere Themen auf breiter Ebene kommunizieren und so einen Beitrag für mehr Toleranz, Akzeptanz, Solidarität und Gleichstellung in der Gesellschaft leisten.
Schwerpunktthema des diesjährigen TEDDY AWARD ist „Queer Icons! Wir eröffnen unser queeres Familienalbum“. Gefeiert werden Schwule, Lesben, Bisexuelle, Transgender, die closet-queens und die ganz großen Queers, von Valeska Gert bis Divine, von Tom of Finland bis James Baldwin, von Mishima bis Mapplethorpe. Jean Marais wird zum 100. Geburtstag eine Hommage beim 27. TEDDY AWARD gewidmet. Der Maler Rinaldo Hopf unterstreicht das Thema mit seiner Serie "Golden Queers" auch in der Ausstellung vom 1.-28.Februar. Sein Artwork, die TEDDY Grafik 2013, greift den Geburtstag Marais' auf.
Der TEDDY ist eine Non-Profit Veranstaltung und finanziert sich ausschließlich aus Beiträgen und Spenden der Förderer und Mäzene des Teddy e.V., dem Engagement vieler ehrenamtlicher Helfer sowie durch Sponsoren und die Eintrittseinnahmen der Veranstaltung.

Building bridges to queer film festivals throughout the world – something made possible with the 9 jury members selected to judge the TEDDY AWARDS 2013 to be awarded on 15 February at Station Berlin. With consideration given to queer films shown in all sections of the international film festival Berlin, the task of the jury members is to select the prizewinners in the categories best feature film, best documentary and best short film and to award a special jury prize.
Sophie Shu-Yi Linis from Taiwan and has been involved in the organisation of the Taiwanese Women Make Waves Film Festival, the Beijing Queer Film Festival and the Kaohsiung International Film Festival. Producer and director Pavel Cortes is the director and head of programming for the first queer programme section – the Premio Maguey – at the Guadalajara International Film Festival in Mexico.
Martha Arredondohas considerable experience as a jury member at queer film festivals. The film critic is also a member of the organising committee of the LesbianGayBiTrans* (LGBT) Film Festival of the Dominican Republic. Benoît Arnulf is the artistic director of Recontres In&Out - the Nice Queer Film Festival. Dilcia Barrera is one of the festival programmers of AFI FEST, the annual festival of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
Gerjo Pérez Meliáis the director of LesGaiCineMad, the Madrid LGBT Film Festival, and is co-founder of the CineLGBT Network, established to encourage and facilitate cooperation between film festivals from over 40 Latin American cities in 17 countries. The most important LGBT cultural event of Ukraine, the Sunny Bunny,held as part of the Molodist Film Festival in Kiev, is organised by Ljosha Chashchyn.
Vinokino, Finland’s only film festival to screen only gender and sexual minority films, is now in its 22nd year. Johanna Hakanen has been a member of its programme team since 2006. Finally, Katja Briesemeister, from Hamburg, is the organiser of the Lesbisch Schwule Filmtage Hamburg | International Queer Film Festival, the largest queer film festival in Germany.

The TEDDY AWARD is the world’s most prestigious queer film prize. As a symbol of political engagement, the award is presented in recognition of films and individuals involved in communicating queer issues to a wider audience and who, as a result, contribute to greater tolerance, acceptance, solidarity and equality throughout society.
The theme of this year’s TEDDY AWARD is ‘Queer icons: Let’s open up our queer family album’. This is a celebration of gay men, lesbians, bisexual men and women, transgender, closet queens and raging queers, from Valeska Gert to Divine, from Tom of Finland to James Baldwin and from Mishima to Mapplethorpe.The 27th TEDDY AWARD will feature an homage to Jean Marais, commemorating the 100th anniversary of his birth. The theme is underlined in the series of works Golden Queers by the painter Rinaldo Hopf which will be on display from 1 to 28 February. His artwork – the TEDDY design for 2013 – makes reference to the anniversary of Marais’ birth.
The TEDDY award is a no-profit event and is financed exclusively through the contributions and donations of the sponsors and benefactors of the TEDDY foundation, the hard work of its many volunteers and through sponsorship and ticket sales for the event itself.
